Welcome to the Frequently Asked Questions page for Salt Gems! We know that shopping online can sometimes raise questions, so we've compiled a list of the most common queries we receive from our valued customers.

Are your gemstones and metals ethically sourced?

Yes. Ethical sourcing is a core value of our business. We work exclusively with trusted suppliers who provide traceable, conflict-free gemstones and responsibly mined or recycled metals. We also prioritize partners who support fair labor practices and environmental sustainability.

What does “conflict-free” mean?

A “conflict-free” gemstone or diamond means it was not sourced in a way that finances violence or human rights abuses, particularly in war-torn areas. We adhere to the Kimberley Process and go beyond it by working with vendors who offer full transparency.

How does the custom jewelry process work?

It starts with a consultation to discuss your vision, style, budget, and timeline. From there, we provide sketches or digital renderings. Once you approve the design, we bring your piece to life with the highest craftsmanship. See “Our Process” for more information.

How long does it take to create a custom piece?

The process usually takes 9 weeks from consultation to completion, depending on complexity and material availability. Rush orders may be possible, just ask!

Can I be involved in the design process?

Definitely. We encourage and expect collaboration! Whether you bring ideas, sketches, or Pinterest boards, we work closely with you to design something uniquely yours.

Do you offer CAD or 3D renderings?

Yes, we provide CAD (Computer-Aided Design) renderings or 3D mockups before we start production, so you can see and approve the design before it's made

How do I know my ring size?

We can show you where to purchase a low cost ring sizer, searching online is always a good start! You can also visit a local jeweler for professional sizing.

Can my ring be resized later?

In most cases, yes. Rings can typically be resized up or down depending on the design. Some intricate styles may be more difficult, but we’ll advise you at the time of design.

Do you offer engraving?

Yes, we offer both hand and laser engraving for a personal touch—perfect for dates, initials, or custom messages.

Can I choose my own stone?

Yes! We’ll guide you through the selection process with curated options that meet your preferences and budget. Whether you want a diamond, sapphire, emerald, or something unique, we’ve got you covered. Note for colored gemstones we can only offer what we have in stock.

Do you offer lab-grown diamonds?

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are eco-conscious and conflict-free, offering the same beauty and durability as mined diamonds. We’ll help you compare options.

What if a stone falls out or something breaks?

We stand behind our craftsmanship and offer a warranty on workmanship. If something goes wrong due to a manufacturing defect, we’ll fix it. Accidental damage can also often be repaired, just reach out. See our warranty for more details!

How should I care for my custom jewelry at home?

Store it in a soft pouch or box, keep it away from harsh chemicals, and avoid wearing it during strenuous activities. We’ll provide specific care instructions with your piece.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we offer international shipping. Customs duties and timelines vary by country, see our shipping policy for more details.

What is your return policy?

Custom pieces are made to order and are non-returnable, but if you have any concerns, we’re committed to making it right. Repairs, resizing, and adjustments are often possible. Please see our return policy for more details.

Is my order insured during shipping?

Yes. All jewelry is fully insured during transit for your peace of mind.

Can you design a ring around a specific budget?

Yes, let us know your budget range, and we’ll tailor the design and materials to match.

Can I bring you a gemstone to use in a custom piece?

At this time, we do not accept customer-provided stones. For quality control, liability, and consistency, we only work with gemstones from our in-house, vetted inventory.

Why don’t you work with stones provided by clients?

There are several reasons:

• We can’t guarantee the quality, durability, or authenticity of stones we didn’t source ourselves.

• Some stones may have internal flaws or treatments that make them unsafe to set or recut.

• We want to ensure the final piece meets our standards for craftsmanship and longevity.

Do you offer custom stone cutting for a design I have in mind?

We do not offer custom cutting or custom sourcing at this time. However, our curated stone inventory includes a broad range of unique and specialty cuts—let us know what you’re looking for, and we’ll show you options that align with your vision.
