Salt Gems was founded by Joyce, an multi-award winning precision gemstone cutter and designer with over ten years of experience in the jewelry arts. Trained through the GIA Graduate Jeweler program, she began cutting her own stones to create jewelry that reflected her personal aesthetic—an interplay of nature, geometry, and understated elegance. Her philosophy is simple: cut for beauty, not for weight. By shaping each gemstone to reveal its optimal light performance, she creates colored stones that glow with a brilliance often compared to diamonds.

Scott’s background in geology enriches this process. With a deep understanding of crystal structure, optical behavior, and other material properties, he builds custom cutting designs using advanced CAD modeling and optical simulation. His scientific approach ensures that every design is optimized for precision and symmetry leading to ideal light return.

Together, Joyce and Scott craft artifacts rooted in both beauty and precision. Every gemstone is designed and cut in-house, with each facet pattern tailored specifically to the rough’s unique optical properties. Beginning with the gemstone and carrying that vision into the final piece, Joyce blends natural inspiration with geometric harmony, resulting in one-of-a-kind jewelry with distinct presence and timeless allure.
